In a big blow to Beijing’s ego, Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan even after Beijing’s theatrical threats warning of repercussions should her visit take place.

In an outlandish outrage, China demonstrated its irritation by sending 27 aircraft into Taiwan’s air defence zone, with 22 of them crossing the median line (16 Chinese Su-30 and 11 other jets).

Taiwan scrambled jets to warn off the Chinese aircraft, however, China is now conducting live fire drills, just 12 miles from the island (essentially blockading some of the sea and air surrounding the island (Taiwan has instructed ships to seek alternative routes)) and several ministries have also suffered from cyber-attacks.

The world is a very unstable place right now, with China’s behaviour akin to that of a schoolyard bully. Australia should consider its defence force spending very seriously, the fact that some Australian political parties are recommending de-militarising Australia is extremely concerning.
